Research and Planning- Changes

After i started creating my digipak, i listened to my song again and looked at my plan. i then realised that due to my previous changes that the pictures and song dint particularly match. I then listened to more songs the artist I've chosen has made. I've decided to change it to a slightly slower song, which i feel matches the colour, outfit and location on the pictures I've already taken.
The song I've not chosen is called "Emergency"

Making the digipak

one of my photos
I went out and took some photos of my new star, i found that some of these photos turned out to be very good and not need much editing at all. Here's an example of one.

Once I put this picture onto my digipak template, I found the colour of the photo needed slightly editing. The colour of her skin looked slightly grey so I changed it to become more red.

Research and planning- Changes

Due to the star of my music video and print work becoming unreliable, I've had to change (at last minute) who I'm starring in my video. Because it was last minute I've also had to change the location of which the photo shoot is being held. My new location is now in the woods rather than on a high street.

Print Planning- Locations

My idea was to take all the photos on Worcester high street. This is because it goes with the idea of Banksy's art work, being outside, on wall, in the public. But it's also easy for both my and Rhianna (who's the main star of my video and therefore my print work too) and me to get to with no problems.

Print Planning- ideas for pictures

Since Banksy's art work is my inspiration, I've taken some of his art work and adapted it. These are just a few sketches of idea's of what the pictures for my print work will look like.

Banksy's Work

My idea
Banksy's art.
This is one of my ideas...
My 2nd idea.
Banksy's
My work.

Print Planning

My inspiration for my print work is the artist Banksy. This is because all of his work has some sort of meaning behind it which will effect society and individuals themselves. Along with this i feel his work also appeals to the same age as my target audience (14-18).

Print Research

I think the importance of print work differs from artists to artist. With a main stream artist such as Cheryl Cole, digipak's aren't that important as her main audience are young teenagers who are more likely to download there music, and will never see or need to see the digipak. But digipak's for less main stream artist's, like folk, acoustic, country, because they're less well known, and there target audience ages is much higher than main stream artists (which also means they're less likely to download) is very important. Older generations are much more likely to buy the c.d than to download, there for an appealing digipak which is kind to the eye is needed to draw attention to it. The advertising poster is very much the same through-out whatever genre, and artist. The poster (whether it's in a magazine or on the internet), is still advertising and still needs to look appealing and draw attention to the audience.

Print Research- advertising poster

The first advert I researched was Paramore's. I really like this poster as its original and very quirky, like the band. The image of the bands been made large so you can clearly see its them, with a picture of there digipak front next to it. alongside this is the name of the album and the realise date. I think the poster is very eye catching. the lightings simple and natural looking. I like how the backgrounds been made to make it look like its a board with all the other images pinned onto it. The font is the font the band use for all adverts and digipaks they have. There isn't really a star image being created here as its just a plain picture of the band with the lead singer closer to the camera to make her stand out more. On the top right hand corner there's a number to text to get the ring tone of a song they've realised. The size of the adverts about half a page of A4. I think this is a good size and will probably use it for my advert. The target audience for this band is similar to my own. It ranges from 14-18, and mostly appeals to girls. I think this adverts a bit redundant as its quirky like the band and you except them to do it, but its also entropic because it's original and not a common way to advertise a band.
The second advert I've researched is from the band All Time Low. I like the filter effect on this advert, i think it makes it more original. the band are the main image of this poster, with the lead singer slightly closer to the camera so more of the focus is on him. The whole adverts been made quite cartoon like, so around the image of the band is a yellow line. This makes the advert quite quirky. The font is the font the band uses with every album cover, advert and if its in the music video. I like how at the bottom of the page there's where you can buy the c.d from and a picture of the album cover. Just above the picture of the band it says when the realise date is. and below the big name of the band is where to find them on Myspace.
The Advert is an A4 size, which is good because it means there can be more information added onto the poster, which is something I may want to consider. I think the adverts quite redundant, because if you listened to the music of the band, you can tell they're quite quirky and fun like this poster itself.
The target audience for this band is again similar to my target audience. (14-18)

Print Research- Digipak

The first album I looked at was from "the Pretty Reckless".  The image is showing her to have a real rock chick style to her like her songs, yet she's being portrayed as angelic and quite innocent. The Shots a Mid shot to close shot. This is so you can get full detail of her make-up as its quite big and an important feature of her style, but it shows some of her body which shows a prerogative view of her. The background to the image is very plain but this is because her costume is very  detailed. This means all the focus goes onto her. The lightings simple, and makes all the colours much more intense looking. This Digipak cover doesn't challenge the convention on the genre as the stars portraying the genre through her costume and make-up. This links into the stars image, which is very rock chic looking and does go alongside her music style.
The font of the Digipak colour is the same font the band use for all digipak's and adverts. It fits the genre perfectly. The layout's simple, it shows the main star, and it shows clearly the name of the band and the album name. As the Stars the main image of the digipak she's taken up the majority of the page and then the writings in the left hand corner. This reinforces the fact she's the star. On this particular cover there aren't any thank you's and no clear copyright signs or any links to buy the album off itunes. This digipak is redundant as it gives the full message of the star. This suits the genre of The Pretty Reckless's music.
Although people tend to download music more than go in shops to buy the c.d, i still think the digipak cover is very important. I think this because when downloading off itunes or other websites the album cover is still shown. It's useful to the artist to have an appealing digipak cover as it draws attention to buying the c.d or the album over itunes. Going back to people buying c.d's in shops, it again draws attention to the consumer. This is a good marketing technique for the artist.

The Next digipak I've researched is "the Veronicas". I like how the front of the digipak isn't an actual picture of them, but its a drawn picture of them. the back has 2 pictures of the girls, I like how one of them its slightly filter and in pink and the other is them creating a slight frame around the other picture. I think it's an original idea. The images connote a mischievous look to the girls. Although all of the images of the girls themselves have been cut out of there mise en scene, behind the pictures on the back of the digipak covers is a picture of a street. The lighting in this is very natural looking, but you can see the sun peaking out between the trees. This connotes a slightly more innocent look to "the Veronicas". The whole digipak itself has a very quirky look to it, which is use the conventions of the genre well. The font on the front of the cover is simple and easy to read, yet it has a roundness too it which could connote an angelic side to the girls. This also shows the Veronicas have a set star image of an angelic and quirky look. At the bottom of the back of the digipak is the copy right.

Research and Planning- Andrew Goodwin

Goodwin has 5 aspects to analysing music videos.

1- Synaesthesia- this is seeing sound
Firstly you need to look at the structure of the song. (choruses and verses) The You need to look at the voice of the performer. If a voice is unique it can be well remembered. This effects the star image. And Thirdly, mode of address. The video can be giving a story and the artist if the story teller.

2-Narrative and Performance
Song fail to give us a complete narrative, the music video fills in the blanks for us. Goodwin says we should ignore common narrative. As the music video is important in the role of advertising the artists song. Having an interested narrative and performance makes is easier for the audience to watch to video countless times without loosing interest.

3- The Star Image
Music video's will include lots of close up's of the star. This is another part of the visual aspect. The star will also play a part in the narrative. This will also have an effect on their star persona.

4- Relation of visual to Song
This includes;
Illustrate- A set of images to illustrate the meaning of the song. It takes the lyrics and song literately. This used to be very popular.
Amplify- the meaning of the song is added by the visuals. The visual aspects create a layer of meaning to the song. This makes the audience thing about what the song really means. This is a popular idea.
Disjunctive- Where the video and the song are completely different.

5-Technical Aspects of Music Video
Technical aspects hold the music video together through use of camerawork, movement, angle, mise-en-scene editing, sound and special effects.Lighting and colour help set mood and emotion. They emphasise key moments of the song for dramatic effect. music videos cut on the beat to add emphasis to the audio track.

Research and Planning- Creativity

I feel creativity comes from one person. It's the freedom for them to "create" anything they feel is exciting or they view as art. Art and creativity comes from the inner emotions allowing them to make something individual. It can be done in different forms, through drawing, painting, singing, dancing, acting etc.
"Creativity is original idea's that have value"- Sir Ken Robinson.
A personal example of mine is in both GCSE dance where I had to choreograph my own dance piece, in Art GCSE where we had to create individual pieces. Also in my Performing arts lessons we get a chance to be creative and put on our own performance.
This Week I've researched further and create a mood board of other artist's videos and images. I've also created a story board of a few ideas i had for my song and costumes to go along with it. These are all temporary idea's ready for when i start planning.

Creativity is limited, this is caused from education. You become creative by making mistakes, and doing things wrong, to become original. Yet in education, mistakes are seen as very bad and are whipped out of children from a young age. Schools have educational hierarchy's, they start with Maths and English, then onto humanities and at the bottom are the arts.

Here's some of my work whilst i was being creative. This is a collage of the artist Banksy. I've studied him as an artist before and i really like his work. I think this will be a big inspiration in either my video or the print work.
